Davies gets new Playground from "Kids around the World"

Davies Elementary School students are having fun on their brand new playground, a gift to the students from "Kids around the World." The group, which has as its mission the gift of play to students internationally, has been to the parish to complete playgrounds at each of the new elementary schools.

Chris Marshall, Regional Vice-President West of Kids around the World, said "We had one of the most exciting dedications we have ever seen! We had a great time ministering here and appreciate all your prayers and support for us and for St. Bernard Parish. We want to thank all who were involved on this project: Debbie Perez and "For the Kids of Katrina", Gethsemene Lutheran Church, the St. Bernard School System and all those who donated towards this project to make this playground a reality!"

A dedication, held last week, featured the Davies cheerleaders, the Chalmette High Cheerleaders and Band, community partners, School Board personnel, and Davies students. Work began on the playground on Monday and was finished by the end of the week.

The playground is the fourth and final project in the community for the faith-based international organization. The group previously built playgrounds at Andrew Jackson, Gauthier, and Smith. "Kids around the World" is a privately-funded organization which provides playgrounds to communities that are suffering from devastation due to war, natural disaster, or economic stress.
